Fervently believing in the values of equal opportunity and social justice in Israeli society, IsraCorps was established to develop a values-oriented social leadership in outlying communities throughout Israel. IsraCorps perceives a social leader as an individual who is very familiar and aware of the social reality, examines it critically and impacts it positively. IsraCorps considers and uses volunteering in the community as both a tool and a method for creating social leadership.

Over the years the geographically and socially peripheral areas have suffered from inequalities, faulty infrastructure and a dearth of welfare and education services. This is apparent in the fact that residents of the periphery and members of minority sectors are not equally represented in the profile of volunteers and social leadership in Israel. IsraCorps believes that true and lasting social change in Israel will only take place if the characteristics of upward mobility such as acquiring education, developing leadership skills, and engaging in volunteering in and for the community are readily accessible to all members of society.

To this end, IsraCorps recruits, trains, places and guides 650 young volunteers in the 55 local municipalities in the periphery of Israel with the intent of instilling volunteerism as a tool for empowerment and as a greenhouse for nurturing social leaders.
