Many entities in Israel (youth movements, National Service, IDF) prepare young people for a community service year in the peripheral areas of the country. Yet, most of these programs often fail to provide appropriate training for working within the local formal education system and for the encounter with the social reality of the target locations. Furthermore, as of now, a majority of the volunteers hail from a rather narrow socio-economic profile, and only a very small proportion come from outlying towns or minority sectors.
IsraCorps was founded in 2005 to address these issues. It is an organization dedicated to training, placing and advising volunteers in the periphery of Israel. It wholeheartedly embraces volunteerism as an empowering instrument and as a means to foster social leaders.
