Creation of a volunteer continuum (ages 14 – 35) in a given community to enable the development of young local leadership from the periphery for the periphery.
A. Young Leadership: Youth aged 15-18
2007-8: 22 young leadership groups, 2008-9: aiming for 30 young leadership groups IsraCorps runs young leadership groups for teens, ages 15-18, in cooperation with other youth programs in the community. The project exposes the teens to the world of leadership, together with providing responses in education and training for active leadership in the community. These teens will be prepared for joining the IsraCorps Community Service Volunteer Year at the age of 18.
B. Community Service Year (pre-army, National Service, and Community Nahal Corps),
ages 18-21
2007-8: 650 volunteers, 2008-9: aiming for 950 volunteers
Conducted by IsraCorps, in cooperation with youth movements and other organizations, it encompasses about 650 volunteers in 55 local communities, from Eilat to Kiryat Shmona. More than 50% of the volunteers are themselves residents of the periphery and/or members of minority sectors). IsraCorps assists in training, guiding and placing groups of volunteers from social organizations operating in the periphery (Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel, Israel Scouts, national service associations, etc.). In addition, IsraCorps initiates and establishes special groups of volunteers who until now have not been included in the volunteer and leadership profile of Israeli society: Groups of volunteers from the Arab sector that operate within the community, helping to expand volunteer activities in this sector; groups of youth from outlying communities, and groups of young women of Ethiopian origin who combine a year of community service with acquiring further education (completing matriculation requirements and gaining inspiration for advanced studies).
C. Adult Leadership Groups, ages 22 – 35
2007-8: 15 Adult Leadership Groups, 2008-9: aiming for 18 Adult leadership groups
IsraCorps identifies volunteers and trains adult leadership groups, comprised mainly of local residents, to work with at-risk children and youth in formal and informal educational settings. These adult leadership groups strengthen the local forces and endeavor to develop young leadership in the community. Through these activities, IsraCorps promotes the development of grassroots leadership that can serve as a role model for the youth in the area.
